Grocery Store
Business Plan in Brief
Introduction: Ben, Declasse, and Amschel plan on building a grocery store at Bois Chandel, a locality of Galette Chambon. In order to open this business, they are seeking, $781 in funding.
Problem: In Bois Chandel, there is no existing grocery store. Residents must travel to either Croix-des-Bouquets or Port-au-Prince to buy food, which is rather time-consuming and particularly difficult for those without access to reliable transportation. Buying groceries places a lot of work and burden on families of Boies Chandel.
Solution: Ben, Declasse, and Amschel will open a grocery store that will deliver an exceptional shopping experience by offering the best services, value, quality, and fresh products. The grocery store will allow people in this community to find their most frequently purchased products easily. They plan to become the top grocer in their community by offering the most inviting atmosphere while saving their customers time and money.
Differentiation: The grocery store will be different from other stores in the region because they will only sell the most popular items including: rice, spaghetti, oil, beans, and sugar. This business will help all people in the community buy their basic household foods conveniently.
Operating Plan
Ben, Declasse, and Amschel plan to start their business in January. The grocery store will open at 9:00 am and close at 8:00 pm every day.

University Student Biography: Lauren Deustch
My name is Lauren Deutsch, and I am a rising junior from Pittsburgh, PA. I am an Operations Management major specializing in Supply Chain and minoring in French, History, and the Computer-Based Honors Program. I hope to complete the University Scholars Program and graduate with both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in December 2018. I may also later pursue law school.
Besides HERD, I am heavily involved with the international student community on campus and am an International Peer Advisory Council ambassador. I am involved in undergraduate research and am spending my summer in Hong Kong doing a research program. I am also on the leadership team for The Well college ministry.
In my free time, I love keeping up with Pittsburgh sports and am a huge Penguins fan! I got to go to a couple of playoff games and loved cheering on the Pens toward the Stanley Cup. I also love traveling and foreign languages, and got to practice some French while in Haiti. When I'm in Pittsburgh, I live with my parents, two younger sisters, and two dogs. My sister Sarah will be joining me at UA in the fall, and I can't wait!
University Student Testimonial: Why I Believe the Grocery Store
“Working with Ben, Declasse, and Amschel was such a privilege, and I couldn't have gotten placed with a better, more hard-working group. As you can see, their plan to open the very first grocery store in their hometown is both well-thought out and self-driven. They consistently went above and beyond what I asked of them and delivered a comprehensive business plan that I believe has true potential. While we were in Haiti, they even worked on their plan outside of class hours! They are truly motivated to make a change in their community and make the lives of those around them a little bit easier.
Ben and Declasse work as teachers, and Amschel is a high school student who speaks five languages (some of which are self-taught). The three have set an ambitious opening date for their business and would like to establish their store by September. In the short week we spent together, they proved that they have what it takes. I look forward to assisting them as they move toward opening their business, and of course, as the business expands and matures. I ask that you come alongside me in helping Ben, Declasse, and Amschel transform their community.”
